ARLINGTON, Texas -- Leonys Martin and the Texas Rangers found a way to put together the game-winning run Saturday night. Kevin Durant Shoes Deals . Martin hit a game-winning bases-loaded single with two outs in the ninth inning to give Texas Rangers a 2-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins. He sent a grounder past pitcher Brian Duensing into centre field to drive in Alex Rios with the winning run. "I was concentrating on getting a good pitch to hit and trying to get a base hit anywhere to win the game," Martin said. "I was just looking for a good pitch to hit." "We put ourself in a position to win, and Leonys came through," Manager Ron Washington said. "He stayed short, and hit the ball up the middle." The Rangers built their winning run against three Minnesota relief pitchers. Alex Rios doubled on a 3-0 pitch with one out against losing pitcher Caleb Thielbar (2-2). Thielbar then walked pinch hitter Jeff Baker intentionally and retired Jurickson Profar on a fly ball, with Rios taking third base. Josh Roenicke then faced pinch hitter Craig Gentry, who worked a walk on a 3-2 pitch to load the bases. "The 3-0 hack by Rios was huge," Washington said. "Gentry fought for that at-bat and got us in position." With the left-handed-hitting Martin coming up, Twins manager Ron Gardenhire called on left-hander Duensing, against whom opponents had been batting just .136 in his past 11 appearances. Duensing got ahead 1-2 in the count. Martin, after going hitless in his first four at-bats, came through with the second walkoff hit of his career. The first was a three-run, 10th-inning home run against the Los Angeles Angels July 30. "I wasnt looking for a homer (Saturday). I was looking to stay within myself, and get a hit anywhere. The key is to win the game," Martin said. Joe Nathan (5-2) pitched a scoreless ninth for the win. It gave AL West-leading Texas a 20-7 record for August, the leagues best. Starting pitchers Matt Garza of the Rangers and Mike Pelfrey each gave up a first-inning run before shutting out their opponent over the next six innings. Brian Dozier led off the game with his 15th home run, a season record for a Minnesota second baseman. Doziers homer broke a tie with Tim Teufel (1984) for the most by a Twins second basemen. The second leadoff homer this season for Dozier also was his 48th extra-base hit, the most for any active Minnesota player after Justin Morneau was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Without Morneau, the Twins managed just five hits against Garza and relievers Jason Frasor and Nathan. Their 11 strikeouts marked the 51st time this season Minnesota batters have struck out at least 10 times. Adrian Beltres sacrifice fly following singles by Elvis Andrus and Ian Kinsler allowed Texas to tie the score 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning. However, Andrus left the game that inning because of tightness in his lower back. Adam Rosales pinch ran for Andrus and scored on the sacrifice fly. The Rangers indicated that Andrus removal was precautionary, and listed him day to day. Garza threw a season-high 119 pitches and struck out nine, his highest total in eight starts for Texas. He allowed only three hits and walked three in his seven innings. "Garza threw the living fire out of the ball," Gardenhire said. "Normally when you give up two runs you win a ballgame. We were really happy with Pelfrey. We thought he was unbelievable. We just couldnt come up with any hits to knock in any runs." Pelfrey, who did not walk anyone, threw 98 pitches in matching his longest outing this season. The Rangers managed just six hits, all singles, against him. Pelfrey retired 13 consecutive batters between the third and sixth innings. Notes: The Twins recalled catcher Josmil Pinto from Triple-A Rochester to take Morneaus roster spot. Outfielder Alex Presley, acquired from Pittsburgh in the Morneau trade, will join Minnesota on Sunday. Manager Ron Gardenhire said Presley would play centre field and bat leadoff. ... Texas will activate designated hitter Lance Berkman, right-handers Nick Tepesch and Neftali Feliz and left-hander Michael Kirkman from the disabled list, and recall righty Cory Burns and catcher Robinson Chirinos and select outfielder Jim Adduci from Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday. Thats when the active roster can expand to as many as 40 players. Cheap Kevin Durant Shoes . Hernandez (3-0) struck out 11 and shut down Oakland for the second time in a week, becoming the first Mariners pitcher to win three times in the first nine games of a season. With the usual "Kings Court" for Hernandez home starts expanded to a "Supreme Court" encompassing the entire stadium with yellow shirts and "K" cards, Hernandez gave up four hits in the 28th double-digit strikeout game of his career. KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Royals ace James Shields is open to staying in Kansas City beyond this season. That news should make the thousands of fans, already flying high over the teams strong finish a year ago, feel even better as they turned out for their annual FanFest on Friday. The Royals exercised their $13.5 million option on Shieldss contract shortly after going 86-76 last season, their best finish since 1989. The durable right-hander was a big reason behind the success, going 13-9 with a 3.15 ERA in an American League-leading 228.2 innings. Shields told a small group of reporters at Bartle Hall that he was willing to discuss an extension, but he said those talks with general manager Dayton Moore have not taken place. "Id definitely be open-minded to it," Shields said. "A player in my position, where I have one more year left before free agency, I mean, Im definitely open to it. I like Kansas City. I like the organization and I like the direction were going." If Shields went to the open market, its unlikely that the Royals would be a player in the chase. There were reports this off-season that he would seek a contract similar to that of former Royals star Zack Greinke, who signed a $147 million, six-year deal with the Dodgers last season. "Thats absolutely not true at all," Shields said. "I have no clue where he got that from, to be honest with you. Ive had no discussions with Dayton at all. "If Dayton wants to talk about it, Im more than willing to sit and talk about it. But during the season, my main focus is trying to win games and get some wins for this team." Pitchers and catchers are due to report to Surprise, Ariz., for the start of spring training on Feb. 14. The first full-squad workout is Feb. 20. Most of the Royals key pieces return from last season, when they conntended into September for the first time in a decade. Wholesale Kevin Durant Shoes. Their two biggest holes were filled by trading reliever Will Smith to Milwaukee for right field Norichika Aoki and signing Omar Infante to solidify second base. "I didnt think our defence could get any better," Shields said, "but theyre definitely filling some holes that we had. And theyre great additions to our lineup." Then theres the starting rotation, where Ervin Santana has become a free agent. While the right-hander has yet to sign elsewhere, the Royals appeared to move on when they signed left-hander Jason Vargas to a contract early in the off-season. Along with Jeremy Guthrie, the first three spots in the rotation are set. That leaves two up for grabs among a handful of candidates, including starters-turned-relievers Wade Davis and Luke Hochevar, veteran Bruce Chen, left-hander Danny Duffy and flame-thrower Yordano Ventura. "Ive just been working hard, resting my arm," said Ventura, who had a 3.52 ERA in three late-season starts in Kansas City. "Ive just been getting ready because I want to get out there and make the team." That doesnt figure to be an easy task given the glut of competition. "Its a competitive game anyway," Davis said. "Why not do it from within a little bit?" Davis said that he spent the off-season in the weight room, and pronounced himself more ready for this season than any previous year. He also said that hes already been throwing some bullpen sessions, giving him a head start on reporting for spring training. "Im definitely going in to start," said Davis, who began last season in the rotation but was demoted to the bullpen when he proved ineffective. "Hopefully I get that opportunity." ' ' '
